Hi all,
We mentioned some management tools to be used in the group, so I'm just getting back to it before our next meeting. There are lots of management tools out there. Personally I've used Slack in Coding Rights and Derechos Digitales. I also used Trello in CR and in research groups. Trello is OK if you have a tight deadline of different tasks to be done in a big team and you need to keep up with what everybody is doing. Slack is for more like a platform for all the work that is done everyday, including ideas, reading, visual references and brainstorm. Trello and Github (among other tools) can be connected to Slack, so everything that is added on Github or tasks that are introduced or completed on Trello is informed to the team on Slack. Since Derechos and Coding Rights have a routine of working with fixed members of the team that live in different cities and countries, Slack is where the follow up about projects is made (they also use the chat on Slack, but I would not recommend it). There are privacy concerns about Slack, some exploit found but no actual breach happened. Just like Varoon, I don't have lots of experience in free software management tools. I participated in discussions with IFF groups on Mattermost but it was only during a couple of months and it was a bit chaotic in my opinion. So if you have any ideas, just let me know. Anyway, if we decide not to use any of these tools we could just have the routine of copying the shared links, texts, etc in this list on Github so it won't get lost in the emails.
Best,
Raquel
Thanks Raquel! Super helpful.
To be honest with you all, I have horror stories with Slack. Previously it turned out to be more work, more communication than a tool that simplifies our lives. The lengthy threads and channels (which multiplied at horrendous rate) meant that we had to respond to more communication than less, making project management a pain for everyone involved. However, I wouldn't want to generalize this experience if others found it useful.
I am having a chat with Cade tomorrow on management tools for Gender & Tech so will circulate an update after I get a better idea of which platform might work best! - Raquel, you are more than welcome to join that chat 11 am tomorrow, it would actually help coordinate efforts-
Thanks!

Hi Sema,
Yes, you have a very important point there. No management tool can be useful if there is a chaotic use of it. That is what happened with IFF Mattermost, in my opinion. Hundreds of users created subjects and channels based on their own agenda that didn't follow the logic of the IFF groups and in the end we were bombed with notifications every 5 minutes about subjects that in many ways were random for most of people. If we chose to use any tool I think there should be a common agreement about channels to be created and that follow the structure of our tasks and demads, otherwise it will be like a white elephant that will just consume time and attention.
I have to go to the new Anmeldung tomorrow about that time, so it won't be possible to be in the meeting, but please let us know about the insights you will get from that.
Best,

Hi,
We are in the process of producing postcards as promotion/outreach material. It would be ideal to have them for the Glass Room.
Options:
** 3 set of postcards, one for each main project with it's image and small text about it on the back
OR
** One unified postcard (could be with in three different versions/images) with one unified description about the ourdataourpolitics.tacticaltech.org
Your ideas are much appropriated, but avoid "voting" :) This is a call to draft something. Brainstorm for a description.. If you think a unified text/postcard is better, send suggestions for a short description. How would you describe ODOP?
I am planning to talk to the designer on Wednesday, and send her all the details.
thanks, - lzm
